    This workshop takes place directly before the AfterDark: For the Culture event and is meant to be a place to workshop a story you might want to tell on-stage later that night. If you aren't ready to throw your name in the hat, no worries! This space is open to anyone who is interested in becoming a better storyteller, and is a perfect way for you to connect with other storytellers before our StorySlam!

You’ll also learn about opportunities to share a story on stage at Wisconsin’s sixth annual Deaf StorySlam on April 25, 2025! This project is possible thanks to Bader Philanthropies, Inc., Milwaukee Public Library Foundation, Wispact Foundation, Steigleder Charitable Trust, Maihaugen Foundation, Ex Fabula members, and Ex Fabula's Deaf storytelling coaches.

  • Theme: Show n Tell - Bring a favorite object, artifact, or family heirloom and share a story about it! Date: Tuesday, May 6th, 2025 Time: 5:30 PM doors, Stories 6–7:30 PM Location: Milwaukee Public Library Mitchell Street Branch, 906 W Historic Mitchell St, Milwaukee, WI 53204. Online registration ends at 2pm CST on Tues, May 6.   Ex Fabula StorySlams are live events where community members connect and share true, personal stories related to the night’s theme, told without notes. Come just to listen – or throw your name in the hat for a chance to share a true story! At the end of the night, the audience votes by secret ballot to choose an Audience Favorite and our secret judges will select a Judges Favorite! There will be opportunities for youth to be a paid storyteller or volunteer, with extra cash prizes for the Audience Favorite and Judges Favorite. The audience can also be a part of the storytelling by submitting UltraShorts! These are “ultra-short” stories on the night’s theme that will be read onstage by the emcee. This event is free, but space is limited, so use the "Add To Cart" button below to reserve your spot. There will be opportunities for youth to be a paid storyteller or volunteer, with extra cash prizes for Audience Favorite and Judges Favorite! Use this Google Form to guarantee yourself a spot. Attendees need to RSVP, even if you have filled out the form to participate as a volunteer or storyteller.
