Cost: Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.

โ€œAfterDark: For The Cultureโ€ โ€“ a night celebrating Black and Brown voices.

Come listen to some of Milwaukeeโ€™s favorite storytellers or drop your name for a chance to share an original poem or true, personal story on “culture.”

You can also submit an UltraShort! These are short stories (a few sentences) on the nightโ€™s theme that the emcee reads on stage. (They can be anonymous!)

Featured Artist

Jamai Fisher is the AfterDark: For the Culture Featured Artist. Fisher will also help lead the FREEย pre-show workshop as our guest facilitator. A Los Angeles native, a poet, and a filmmaker, Jamai Fisher seeks to walk in God’s purpose by making hard conversations easy through storytelling.

Curated Artists

Darius Smith is a visual artist, event curator, organizer, and co-owner of The Locals Gallery, a hub designed to serve BIPOC communities. Through his co-founding of Black Space, Smith has ventured into a new realm, promoting the normalization of healthy mental health practices in Black and Brown communities. Additionally, in his role as the director of the gener8tor art X Sherman Phoenix program, Smith is actively contributing to the growth and empowerment of artists of color. He has cultivated a reputation as a cultural visionary, dedicated to advocating for the rights of marginalized individuals.

Element Everest-Blanks is an accomplished creator and storyteller. She works as the Music Director and host of afternoon and evening drive shows for HYFIN, a RadioMilwaukee station dedicated to celebrating and supporting Black music and culture. She also serves as a brand ambassador for HYFIN, showcasing her passion for supporting Black creators in Milwaukee on her social media. Element is the creator of โ€œThe Culture Plugโ€ and winner of multiple Telly Awards.

Emmitt James is a Hip Hop-Jazz artist and Spoken Word-Poet based in Milwaukee, WI.
