Farewell Carolina, Hello Sam
Maybe you’ve met Carolina? Carolina has been Ex Fabula’s Community Connector, and leading our fabulous volunteer crew for the past two years through the Public Allies Americorps program. Carolina’s term is coming to an end and she is off to Chile soon to live her best life. We are so excited & happy for Carolina’s new journey, and she will be missed!
So, we have some big shoes to fill right? We searched high and low for Carolina’s replacement and we found Sam! We’ll let him introduce himself…

Ex Fabula’s Newest Addition!

Hello everyone! My name is Sam Woods, and I’m excited to join the Ex Fabula team as Community Connector for Season 10. Like Carolina before me, I am currently serving a year with Public Allies, an AmeriCorps program that brings together young, social justice-oriented folks for a ten month long apprenticeship that builds sustainable citizen-leadership.

I grew up in Seattle, Washington before attending college at American University in Washington, DC and graduating with degrees in economics and philosophy. After graduating, I moved to Milwaukee to serve with City Year, another AmeriCorps program that focuses on helping students and schools succeed. While serving with City Year, I worked at a high school on Milwaukee’s South Side, assisting as a math tutor, event planner, classroom assistant, and mentor for over 100 ninth grade scholars.

Like most of us, I’ve had a variety of interests throughout my life that arise, define my life for awhile, but ultimately fade away with time. However, I have always been interested in history and in understanding why things happened the way they did. As I grew older, it meant reckoning with stories of past inequities, trying to understand what allowed such persistent injustice to be sustained.

Given this interest in stories and history, I was naturally drawn to an organization like Ex Fabula that uses storytelling to understand and strengthen community bonds. Stories give everyone the chance to be an artist, and to connect to members of their community.

Wait, there’s more…

In my free time I love to cook, take extended walks or bike rides in new neighborhoods, and play a lengthy, back-stabbing, deeply personal game of Uno. I also produce and co-host a podcast called Bridge the City, which is all about civic engagement and turning knowledge about the Milwaukee community into civic action. Check it out!
3 Sam Facts:

2) *whispers* i don’t like avocados
3) My favorite bus line is the 14. My least favorite bus line is the 51. Ask me at a future show for the reasons why.
Looking Forward
I look forward to getting to know you all, and to hear all of your stories at the next Slam! If you’re interested in volunteering, or just want to introduce yourself, please email me anytime at sam@exfabula.org.
