Ex Fabula StorySlam: Who Knew?
The New Year is here! Join Ex Fabula for the first StorySlam of the year Tuesday, January 13th, on the theme “Who Knew?”
We’ll be at a brand new venue, Garfield’s 502, a restaurant and bar located at 502 W. Garfield Ave. It’s a smaller venue so advance tickets are recommended. Tickets are $8; with all proceeds going right back to funding more programs that connect you with live storytelling here in Milwaukee.
Have a great story that you would like to share? Come at least 15 minutes early and put your name in the hat. You just might be one of the nine storytellers of the night, with the possibility of being the audience favorite and a teller at the ALL STARS event in May! To be ready to make your story the best, you can read our storytelling guidelines.
The show begins at 7:30 pm, with doors opening an hour before. Come early for best seats and parking. Again, please keep in mind that this is a smaller venue, so advance tickets are a good idea!
We hope that your New Year is one that is filled with things that really matter, like family, friends and community. And we hope that your story is more complete and your connection to your community is much stronger through storytelling. See you for the first StorySlam of the year for great stories on January 13th!
Secret Fabula: Brass Rooster and the Hen House
Looking for an out of the ordinary event? Then our next Secret Fabula has a lot “in store” for you. Join us at hat shops The Brass Rooster and The Hen House located at 2250 S. Kinnickinnic Ave on Sunday, January 25, 2015 from 1 pm to 3 pm. You’ll go behind the scenes and hear the stories & secrets of this rare establishment that makes handmade dress hats, making them one of the very few hat makers left in the country.
Not only are the shops an uncommon find, but the the shops’ interiors make them truly unique. In fact, this Secret Fabula will give you a chance to check out their new location, as they recently moved to what was formerly the Boulevard Theater. The Brass Rooster is both a contemporary hat shop and a “living and working museum”, with hat-making equipment that is over 100 years old. The new expansion, The Hen House, is a women’s shop that is equally distinctive.
This event will include stories, a tour, trivia and a complimentary drink. Tickets are available to members only, so it’s a great time to purchase or renew a membership in time for the event. Memberships may be purchased at any point in the year and are good for 12 months. Your membership will include many more benefits to come, such as free StorySlam tickets, free or discounted admission to storytelling workshops, access to intimate and exclusive Secret Fabula events and more. When you become a member, your support helps Ex Fabula unite and strengthen communities by allowing people to connect through the art of storytelling. To get tickets for the event, members can purchase $8 advance tickets here (tickets at the door will be $12 if any are left); and if you are not a member, you can purchase a membership here.
We’ll see you at The Brass Rooster and The Hen House for a storytelling event that you do not want to miss!
