Make your holiday season bright! Ex Fabula would like to invite you to a very special Spectacular at Historic Turner Hall Ballroom on Thursday, December 11th at 7:30 pm.
Every December, in place of a regular StorySlam, we put on our Spectacular, a non-competitive program of stories curated by a jury of Ex Fabula volunteers. At this year’s event, selected storytellers will share true, personal stories on the theme, “Surprise/Sorpresa.”
In addition to new, longer stories from jury-selected storytellers, the night will feature 2 stories told in Spanish and interpreted into English as part of The Puente Project. This exciting opportunity to provide multilingual programing is made possible through a grant from UWM Cultures and Communities. Project participants invited by CORE/El Centro have met with an Ex Fabula storytelling coach to hone their storytelling abilities, and students from UWM Translation and Interpreting Studies are preparing to interpret stories into English when they are told live at the Spectacular.
This showcase gives Ex Fabula the opportunity to celebrate amazing storytellers and put them on a large stage at Turner hall. This year’s inclusion of Spanish-language stories will give non-Hispanic audience members a meaningful cross-cultural experience.
The event is expected to fill up quickly, so be sure to purchase your tickets in advance. Tickets are $12 and available online through the Pabst Theater box office. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Thanks to our all the wonderful season and sponsors who’ve made this event possible (see their logos on the flyer and on our sponsorship page)
Stay tuned, as we’ll be announcing the storytellers in early December!
