Winner-winner chicken dinner! That’s right folks, Ex Fabula is now an official winner of the Mandi’s Associated Bank Trailblazer Award for our work in helping create the first ever Wisconsin Deaf Story Slam in Milwaukee. This was a remarkable project collaboration with Milwaukee Public Library, UWM Deaf Awareness Week and Deaf Community members in Milwaukee. Last season, our Deaf StorySlam was so powerful that we did it again this year. We brought on coaches Marya Castrejon- Hernandez, Jonathan Petermon and Jose Barazza to lead our weekly ASL affinity space workshops to prepare for the slam.
We were so fortunate to win alongside some wonderful people and hear stories along the way. These stories inspired us to continue the work that we do. It is so important to make programming inclusive and accessible to everyone in the city of Milwaukee, and so often the voices of the Deaf community go unnoticed. We here at Ex Fabula believe that the untapped stories in our community should be amplified and centered as often as possible. This Brave Space project is one that we wish to continue every year.
Be sure to register to attend our 2nd annual Deaf StorySlam on Sunday, September 27th, 2020 from 1-3pm. We hope to see you then!
